Backup and Recovery

Backup and Recovery Services provide fully managed backup and restore services for file systems and databases. This service is provided in conjunction with a Storage Area Network (SAN).Consort's SAN, offers you a fully managed architecture utilizing fibre channel technology.

Services Description

Consort's Backup and Recovery Services (BRS) can be requisitioned with a Primary Storage Service which addresses business concerns regarding low tolerance for downtime. This service has a 1 terabyte (1 TB) monthly minimum requirement.

This equates to backing up approximately 150 GB of primary data on a nightly incremental and weekly basis over the course of a month.

Meeting the Challenge if Disaster Strikes

BRS provides your business with a secure, automated off-site server backup .
Backup windows include standard weekly full backup with a 24-hour backup window, standard daily incremental backups with an 8 hour window, standard monthly system backup, weekly tape delivery to offsite facility for disaster recovery and complete tape media management and tracking. Restores include file, database and operating system restore initiations, 30 minute guarantee to initiate restore process and two free restore initiations per backup client per month.
By letting Consort manage your critical data backup, you can rest assured that your data will "be there" when you need it.
Retention periods equal two week on-site retention, one month off-site retention period for full backup performed weekly, three month off-site retention period for full backup performed monthly and one year off-site retention period for full backup performed quarterly. Physical components include tape media and all necessary hardware, network, software, and respective maintenance. Reports are provided via e-mail or Internet web access. Reports include weekly backup reports, monthly configuration reports, monthly trend reports and client requested summary reports for restores, changes in backup windows, etc.

Optional solutions

Network Attached Storage Service (NAS) is an optional primary data storage solution available.

NAS is perfect for read-intensive applications requiring multiple servers to access the same data. NAS utilizes an IP network architecture, rather than a fibre channel technology. With NAS, file systems instead of raw storage volumes are made available over the network and the file server manages the data placement.

Another optional and effective way to back up live data is to temporarily quiesce it (e.g. close all files), take a snapshot, and then resume live operations.

Point-in-time copies create snapshot copies of your primary data volumes. The copies are made available to you through the StoragePortâ„¢ access channel and can then be utilized for various needs such as application testing against 'at scale' data, data warehousing, data mining, non-disruptive backups, or batch processing.
