Hot/Cold Site

Selecting and implementing the correct type of protection required in the event of a disaster depends on how long your business systems can remain non-functional. And, getting your IT infrastructure back in operation quickly can be an arduous process, which is why a professionally designed and fully tested disaster recovery plan should be in place.

Services Description

Consort can provide a fully equipped hot site that enables an organization to resume operations immediately upon notice of a catastrophe. The hot site will contain all the applications, servers, storage, and network equipment specified by the client company.

Alternatively, Consort can establish a cold site facility that would be provisioned upon notice of a disaster. Consort will be prepared to assist with the procurement, installation and configuration of all equipment required for business continuity.

Determining the best DR Option

The most important factor in choosing a hot or cold site is going to be a business decision -- how much does it cost your organization to be down for a day, two days, three days...
Hot Site Services encompass a diverse array of current hardware, from mainframe to mid-range, from engineering workstations to office desktop computers and virtually everything in between. A comprehensive inventory of your computing environment is taken and analyzed to determine the appropriate infrastructure configuration (including spares) that should be available on demand. Consort provides close, personal support to our customers and ready access to senior management and our disaster recovery experts.
Consort will also assist with a cost-benefit analysis to determine the needs of your organization for a Cold Site Facility.
Fully provisioned Cold Site facilities with redundant electrical, mechanical and network infrastructure are available to support customers who experience a long-term business disruption. To facilitate a transition from Hot Site services, the Cold Site facilities have been installed on the same physical network as the primary Hot Site facilities. Cold Site infrastructure is customized to each customer’s unique specifications. Consort will assist in the design, procurement and implementation of virtually any IT environment required for extended operations.

Additional Factors

There are a number of other factors to be considered when an organization determines their need for an offsite backup facility such as:
  • What is the enterprise budget for full Disaster Recovery Planning?
  • Which non-core functions can be offloaded or not included in the offsite location?
  • Has a complete business impact analysis been performed by a competent disaster recovery specialist?
  • What are the issues regarding the proximity of the backup site? Should it be as close as reasonably possible to disaster area or should it be established in a more remote location?
